CHAPTER THIRTEEN

ZARA

The door swung open, and Peter, Julian, and Clifton charged into the room. They knocked into each other, looking around the room like they were there to stop a crime from happening. When they caught sight of Huck and me standing in the center of the room, him with his hands in his pockets and me with my arms crossed over my chest, they gave us matching glares.

“What’s going on in here?” Julian asked.

“Thankfully, nothing. Or I’d be pretty upset with you three for walking in on it,” I snapped. I was bluffing, but they deserved to be messed with.

Peter scowled and stepped forward, but Julian put a hand out to stop him. “Your Highness, it’s time for you to return to Arnada.”

“Is that so?” I asked, tipping a hip in defiance.

“It is. His Royal Highness has been patient long enough,” Peter said. “And so have we.”

“Well, you’re in luck. I have already decided to return home,” I informed them.

“You have?” all three men asked.

“I have. And I’m bringing the Wells family with me.” I turned to Huck with a big grin. “I want them to meet my family and have a fun holiday at the palace.”

All three of my guards turned their incredulous stares on Huck, and if looks could kill, they’d all be locked up for life. Peter stepped forward. “You’re just one of us though, right?”

Confused, I turned to Huck and saw him chuckle and point a finger. “Don’t forget the better-looking part.”

Peter harrumphed. “Right.”

I pointed from Huck to my guard and back again. “Okay, I’m not sure what’s going on here, but listen, you three. This is none of your business. And I’m highly offended that you’ve been patronizing me for the last three weeks. You better believe my brother will also get a piece of my mind. My love life is none of your business, so just … shove off.”

The silence in the room seemed incredibly loud as they blinked at me. I slowly looked at Huck, and as soon as our eyes met, an explosion of laughter burst out of us. I covered my face with my hands and groaned as he continued to chuckle beside me, but my guards just stood straighter and waited for me to collect myself.

Wiping under my eyes, I sniffed. “I’m sorry. That was a bit intense.”

They nodded, and Peter cleared his throat. “I don’t believe you’ve ever yelled at us before, Your Highness.”

“Yes, well, I suppose you had it coming then.” I pursed my lips and sighed. “So, what, you’ve been sitting in your car for the last three weeks? How terribly boring.”

The three men relaxed then. Julian put a hand on his hip and stretched. “I think my muscles might be atrophying.”

We all laughed a little then, and I turned to Huck. “We’ll leave tomorrow, but do you think your mother would mind if we had a few more guests for dinner? My treat. I’ll order plenty of food.”

“What are you going to order?” Huck asked.

I turned back to my guard, raising my chin with a slow smile.
